Practice questions written from the state handbook and federal rules. Not the official test.
Service Oklahoma gives a short written test: 20 questions, and 15 correct answers pass it, a 75 % mark that is lower than the 80 % used in many states. A teen can apply for the learner permit at 15 years. On retakes the rule is: no waiting period stated; may retake as many times as needed (online max 2 attempts), $4 per failed attempt. The learner permit costs $42.50 and the intermediate license the same, $42.50; each fee is $4 for the application plus $38.50 for the card. Driver education is optional: driver education (school, commercial or parent-taught) allows permit at 15, intermediate at 16 and earlier removal of restrictions. After 6 months on the permit, the intermediate license can come at 16 years; its time and passenger limits can be lifted at 16 years 6 months. The number of supervised hours was not confirmed on the pages we read. Oklahoma sets 0.00 as the alcohol limit under 21. Note that the test is not offered in Spanish according to Service Oklahoma.

What Oklahoma charges
Fees are the part of the Oklahoma process most families notice first, because they are higher than in nearby states.
Each Oklahoma card has the same two parts, an application fee and the card itself. The tool adds the permit and the first license for any state:

A short test with a lower bar
At 20 questions, Oklahoma's test is among the shortest, and 75 % is a lower mark than most states use. That does not make it easy: with 5 errors allowed, each question weighs 5 % of the score. The questions come from the Oklahoma Driver Manual and cover signs, right of way, speed, turns, passing, railroad crossings and alcohol. Strong winds on open highways, sudden storms and tornado season are part of driving in Oklahoma, and the safe-driving chapter touches on them. The MUTCD sets the sign shapes and colors.
The online version of the test is limited to two attempts, while in-person retests have no waiting period. Each failure costs the $4 fee again, so three failures add $12 to the card fees. The cheapest preparation is the free practice test, run until 15 correct answers feel routine.
Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas and New Mexico
| Oklahoma | Texas | Kansas | New Mexico | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Learner permit | 15 years | 15 years | 14 years | 15 years |
| Pass mark | 75 % | 70 % | not confirmed | 70 % |
| Permit fee | $42.50 | $16 | not confirmed | $10 |
| Full privileges | 16 years 6 months | 18 years | 16 years 6 months | 16 years 6 months |
The Oklahoma permit is nearly three times the price of a Texas learner license ($16), while New Mexico accepts an even lower pass mark, 70 %.
Oklahoma also lets young riders start early on two wheels: a motorcycle permit is possible from 14 years, with its own test. And for drivers under 21, the alcohol limit is 0.00.
The intermediate stage
The intermediate license carries a "T" restriction: driving allowed only 5 a.m.-10 p.m. unless for school, church or work activities or accompanied by licensed driver 21+. Passengers: one passenger, or only household members, unless a licensed driver 21+ is in the front passenger seat. A teen who completed driver education can have these limits lifted sooner.
Driver education changes the Oklahoma timeline more than in most states: driver education (school, commercial or parent-taught) allows permit at 15, intermediate at 16 and earlier removal of restrictions. Several formats are accepted, from school programs to parent-taught courses, so the choice is mostly about schedule and cost. Read Service Oklahoma's age rules before deciding, since the course affects three different dates.
